Chamber material affects visibility, cleaning, weight, impact resistance, and long-term appearance. Glass and plastic each have practical tradeoffs.
Clear glass makes it easy to see the water level, transfer speed, and residue inside a chamber. Transparent plastic can provide similar visibility, although some plastics scratch or become cloudy over time.
Glass generally tolerates a wider range of cleaning products intended for glass water-pipe or hookah components. Plastic requires more caution because solvents, high heat, and abrasive tools can damage or cloud certain materials. Always use cleaning products appropriate for the specific component.
Plastic is usually more resistant to drops and impacts. Glass can chip, crack, or shatter and should be handled over a protected surface.
Glass is nonporous and generally resists retained odors and staining when cleaned regularly. Some plastics can absorb odors or discolor depending on the material and cleaning history.
The Gravity Reactor™ uses two removable clear glass chambers so the water-transfer cycle remains visible and the chambers can be cleaned separately from the printed ABS frame. Separately, the included standard 14 mm bowl/connection is made from borosilicate glass. We do not describe the 16 oz chamber jars as borosilicate unless that material specification is separately confirmed.
Borosilicate glass is widely used where temperature resistance and dimensional stability are useful. It still requires careful handling: chips, cracks, impact, and sudden extreme temperature changes can damage glass components.
